The first track "With Ease" was written in April 2023. It utilized Kaytranada's huge influence on my work at the time with the clap loop that appears at 0:31 being the starting point. I needed to make something reminiscent of a house tempo which resulted in an infectious drum loop off of which two phrases "Ease your pain, Ease your mind" and "I feel your shame, No need to cry" were recorded. This was the first time I ever recorded my vocals over a track in this capacity.

I recorded 12 tracks between then and October that didn't make the album. It was a frustrating time as nothing seemed to flow after the first track.

The rest of the album came together very quickly when I decided to tell a story. The second track needed to have the guitar tones but everything else could be free. "Are We Friends" was inspired by Fred Again... I wanted to make something with a ton of bass where I could freely experiment with chopping one phrase in many different ways to construct a song. I thought it was the perfect way to slowly get weirder as the EP progressed.

"A Fool's Journey" came together very quickly and I wanted to steer the story in a different, less colourful direction. I needed to test the limits of how much I could timestretch my vocals, how many different effects were truly too much?

The last track was hard emotionally to get through. I felt truly terrified of what the future held, so I put it all in this song and channeled the influence of Signals by Rush on the guitar chops. It ended up being a fitting conclusion: I have no idea what the future holds but playing guitar will always bring me peace.
